BEDLINGTON TERRIERS
I have kept and worked Bedlington Terriers for over 20 years now. The dogs have been worked to all legal quarry but the majority of my work involves rats and rabbits at the moment.
It all started with a blue dog from Dave Moore in Northumberland call Spike (Lynebyrn Nuts in May). He is shown in the picture below, he is back right.

He was then joined by a blue bitch called Jenny (Lynebyrn Jenny Wren) who was also bred by Dave Moore. Spike excelled at rabbits and rats as did Jenny but Jenny really came into her own on larger quarry. She would go crazy at just the scent of a fox. The two Lynebyrn dogs were then joined by a liver bitch from Francis Fuller called Lily (Plashett Caramel Cookie) bred from some of John Piggins dogs. Lily was a different type to Spike and Jenny, as she had a lot more Gutchcommon in her, which I feel made her a more racy type, longer in the leg and slightly lighter built. Lily is shown back left in the picture. We then lined Lily with John Holden’s dog Warrior (Granitor Warrior) and this litter produced a bitch that we called Briar (Hunterscliff Briar Rose) shown above front right. Briar was nothing really to look at. I always called her square with a leg at each corner but she did go onto win the title Working Bedlington Terrier Champion of Great Britain at Woodhorn, as had her mother, Lily and her Grandmother (Gallowdyke Spice) before her. |

Briar was then mated with Roy North’s dog Rogue (Niddvale Spring Warrior) who had won Best of Breed at Crufts under John Holden and the resulting litter produced our best dog to date in Mic (Hunterscliff Dynamic) who worked all legal quarry and gained a Reserve CC at Blackpool Championship show.
We have kept our Hunterscliff line along the Granitor and Gutchcommon lines with the occasional addition of some fresh blood. Our latest addition is a dog we have bred ourselves called Medlar (Hunterscliff Medlar). His mother Roxy was produced by our dog Ginger (Hunterscliff Ginger), Medlar’s sire is a dog that Dougie McKenna up in the Scottish Borders produced called Skarn (Graywhacke Skarn) which goes back to Mic, so le’ts hope Medlar turns out to be as good a worker as Mic.
Medlar is now offered at stud to registered and non registered bedlingtons and also whippets. Please get in touch for recent photos and to arrange a visit.
